As a TEDx speaker and emcee, he has taken to the stage at thousands of events around the world, including the prestigious White House Hispanic Heritage Awards (7 times) and the USO’s 50th Anniversary Gala in Paris.

Magazine's "Socially Responsible Entrepreneur of the Year.” It is estimated that he has raised over 100 million dollars in cash, goods and services for local and national non-profits during his career.
President Ronald Reagan commended Sonny for his efforts in the war on drugs; he received the FBI National Director’s Community Leadership Award and was lauded by the Department of Justice, receiving the “Modern Hero Award,” for his efforts to inspire the nation’s youth to Soar in School.
The City of San Antonio named the Sonny Melendrez Community Center located on the city's West Side in his honor, as way to say "thank you” for his community involvement, benefitting disadvantaged youth and families, including over 1400 motivational school presentations.
One of the projects of which he is most proud is the Children of the World Project, benefitting USA for Africa and giving talented youth a way to give back through their recording the children's version of the worldwide anthem, "We Are the World." The song received a Grammy nomination for "Best Children's Recording."
